I have a new original tune I’m recording right now called West Side Of Town. It talks about my friends, my family, how I miss them when I’m away, all the things I love about home, and my internal struggle between wanting to be at home and wanting to be out in the world exploring.
WEST SIDE OF TOWN
by Mike Field
I just flew home direct from Rome
To the west side of town
A sunny day and everyone’s okay
On the west side of town
So good to see my friends again
My time away’s come to an end
Back to the grind I’ll take my time
On the west side of town
I learned my roots and I worked for suits
On the west side of town
I had a date down by the lake
On the west side of town
So far away oh I may fly
So much to see so much to try
But then I come home, it’s where I’m from
The west side of town
It’s not that I don’t love you
Or miss you when I’m gone
I think of you every day
An the place where I come from
Out there is where I’m meant to be
It’s where I feel my soul is free
But don’t you fret I won’t forget
About what you mean to me
I met a girl and I brought her home
To the west side of town
We’ll meet today at the café
On the west side of town
I grew up here this is my home
Around the world though I may roam
I keep going away I can never stay
On the west side of town
It’s not that I don’t love you
Or miss you when I’m gone
I think of you every day
An the place where I come from
Out there is where I’m meant to be
It’s where I feel my soul is free
But don’t you fret I won’t forget
About what you mean to me
So many bars and old streetcars
On the west side of town
If you don’t know then you’ve got to go
To the west side of town
We’ll catch up on everything I missed
Before I leave on my next trip
Well now I’m here let’s have a beer
On the west side of town
Oh the summer’s here and everything is clear
On the west side of town
Oh my home is here and it’ll be for years
The west side of town
